Braw Gals In Music - Get to know us!

Hello and welcome to the brand new 'Braw Gals In Music' blog and website!!

I have wanted to start up something like this for a long time and am ecstatic that it's finally happening!!!!

I thought for the first blog post it would be good idea to introduce myself and let you know a little bit more about the project and the inspiration behind it.

My name is Jordan and I am a singer/songwriter, commercial music student and coffee enthusiast from Paisley! Like many of you, I am a huge music fan and always have been and love to discover new music from a variety of different genres so please feel free to send me your recommendations any time! Some of my favourite artists and inspirations are - Carole King, Joni Mitchell, PJ Harvey and Phoebe Bridgers but I will pretty much listen to anything!

That's enough about me for the mean time so let's move on to the exciting stuff....

Braw Gals In Music stemmed from my third year project in University. I knew immediately when our projects were first discussed back in October that I wanted to create something for women working within the Scottish music industries, I feel that in Scotland we have such a rich and diverse music scene right on our doorsteps but was frustrated by the lack of representation that women in music from all sectors still continue to experience. I must mention that Vick Bain's - 'Counting the Music Industry' report is an extremely eye-opening and insightful piece of research into the gender split within the UK music industries and highly recommend having a read through this if you haven't already.

The aim of 'Braw Gals In Music' is to promote and celebrate all of the incredible women we have working within the Scottish music industries and help to open up the conversation surrounding why as women we are so underrepresented and often overlooked and what we can do as a community and society to address and make positive changes. I also want to mention that although this project is targeted towards women in music that people who are non-binary are also completely welcome to be promoted through this page as well as I feel that it is important to not exclude members of this community, so please do not hesitate to get in touch with anything you would like to promote! <3

I am in the middle of putting together a 'Women of the Day' feed so if you are interested in being a part of this drop me a wee email at - brawgalsinmusic@gmail.com with a bio, any links and a promo pic for the post!

Lastly I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has followed, liked, contributed and supported my project so far, I am so grateful!

Well that's enough from me for today and I hope you all have a great week!
